You’re Going to Do What?!?

I heard this a LOT when I said I was adopting the lifestyle of a homesteader. I got the confused looks (the same ones I used to give people for the same reason), I got the “are you crazy?” question and every variation that came with it. I still get them and that’s ok. In fact, I stopped bringing it up to people who weren’t in my immediate family or inner circle because honestly I didn’t become a homesteader to please others. I did it because I feel it is what is right and necessary to take care of my family. I learned quickly that not everyone will understand.

If you’re reading this post, you understand. For whatever reason, something lead you here. Maybe you are curious and just gathering information. Or maybe you’ve taken the plunge and you want to connect with others who are in the same boat with you.

It is important to find your “why” when you are making the decision of whether or not to live the life of a homesteader. Maybe you want to have control over where the food you are feeding your family comes from. Maybe you want to leave the rat race of big city living and discover a simpler, more rewarding lifestyle. Maybe you’re like me and want to bring back the ways of a time gone by and connect the past with the future. Or maybe you want to be prepared for what is coming next in this unsettled world we live in.

Maybe it’s all of the above.

Whatever the reason, you’re here and I want to be able to help you along your way. There is nothing wrong with being prepared for whatever life can throw at you and homesteading will help you with that. Homesteaders grow and preserve food to prepare for the times when they can’t. That’s basic preparedness. That’s being responsible. But is most certainly NOT crazy.

Until we meet again – may your hands be in the dirt, may your head be in the sun and your heart be one with nature…
